Revolution
During an extended relationship with Steve Case's firm Revolution, Canopy Development led the design and development process on a number of their projects. Revolution Places focuses on creating unique resort experiences in compelling locations, and Canopy was called upon to begin the conceptualization and development process for new land acquisitions and rethink the design and development strategies for existing resorts and properties.
Miraval, Tucson, Arizona
Miraval Resort is rated as the top destination spa in North America by readers of Travel and Leisure, SpaFinder and Conde Nast. Miraval's core concept of “mindfulness” attracts customers who wish to reconnect with their inner self and live more balanced lifestyles. In March of 2006, Miraval Development invited Canopy to assemble a design team and lead a charrette process to upgrade and enhance Miraval's facilities. The goal was to establish a vision that supports authenticity and mindfulness and to generate design concepts for the rehabilitation and expansion of existing Miraval facilities.
Canopy invited leading architecture, engineering and planning firms along with
Miraval representatives, an environmental planning firm, energy and infrastructure specialists and an interior design firm to participate in an intensive four-day charrette, held on-site at Miraval. A clear understanding of the relationship between the land and Miraval's mission and brand was developed among the group. The result was a master plan that embodies Miraval's core values along with concept sketches and strategies to improve the energy efficiency of Miraval and the assembly of a team to implement and execute the masterplan concept in overall design and details.

Cacique, Costa Rica
Cacique (a Revolution company) hired Canopy Development to complete a master plan design for the 700-acre Punta Cacique property, located on the “gold coast” of the Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica. Canopy was also charged with producing the program and thumbnail financial projections for the masterplan. Canopy's design targeted people interested in settling permanently or semi-permanently in Costa Rica, as well as the tourist resort visitors. The Canopy plan was anchored by a mixed-use, resort village along the peninsula ridgeline, a vibrant hilltown village with reforestation areas, herb and flower gardens and agricultural areas.
A concentration of density was planned on the eastern end of the property, affording greater seclusion for the high-end residences on the western tip of the peninsula. Canopy's plan connected the experiences of the resort village, the hilltown village and the beach areas through pedestrian greenways, a five-mile path and several inclinators.
